The advertisement menace
cable TV came to India in early 1990s.
Until them in my leisure time I used to read books deep into the night. I have been a voracious reader. I picked up books like Dracula, Love Story, To kill a mocking bird, Arthur Hailey books, PG Wodehouse, Northcoote C Parkinson, most of Bertrand Russel, Dan Brown, John Grisham, vintage John Steinbeck Agatha Christie, charles Dickens, Daphne Du married, Conon Doyle, Jim Corbet's Man-eater hunting novels and so many classics like Gone with the wind.. It always refreshed the mind and I enjoyed every moment of reading.
As I said, then we got cable TV. Initially it was giving interesting short serials (at the cost of books though) with hardly any ads. But as time rolled on ads kept interfering with viewing and then it became nauseating. I stopped watching TV except for a few live international events.
Smartphone came as a relief. In the beginning there were no ads.But then ads started appearing and now they are killing the internet too. Some popular social networking sites have lately become unbearable. Then there is issues like privacy breach.
Where do we go from here?
