In old age people generally die either in sleep or early in the morning due to spike in blood pressure. The reason is that the way blood pressure goes up and down in a 24 hour day CHANGES in old age.
Until old age blood pressure rises during the day and goes down when you are asleep.
In old age BP does not go down during the night but may start going up and higher in the period after the midnight and early morning.
Therefore the latest medical opinion is that in old age blood pressure medicine should be taken at bed time and NOT with the breakfast. (Google search for details)
It is always good to have life style changes for improvement in blood pressure. Eating restaurent food and processed food items always leads to bad health. YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT. If you are particular about avoiding such food and commercial drinks including colas and health drinksyou will complication in old age. You should also monitor your blood pressure early in the morning once a week if you are taking blood pressure medication
If your BP is more than 140/75
in the morning you are at risk of serious consequences in sleep/early morning. It is then advisable to talk to your doctor, more so if you are past fifty years of age. It is all the more important if you are without blood pressure medicine . If you are a senior citizen it is also advisable to ask him if you may take the medicine at night.
