The Donkey Days
There was a time when all #clothes were #cotton. There was no #detergent powder or detergent soap.No #WashingMachine. No electric irons. Home washing was tedious.
It was a common sight in those days to spot a washerman moving down rhe road, his #donkey carrying a load of clothes.
Washed clothes were starched and ironed with the traditional heavy iron and delivered home once a week. Buttons were usually missing after the thrashing the clothes received on stone slabs at the hands of the #washerman at the washing sites.
#Toddy was the favourite evening drink of a washerman after the weary day . Toddy was collected from #ToddyPalmTree by men skilled in climbing up those tall trees.
