Kunjapuri Temple is a Devi temple in Tehri Garhwal Uttarakhand India , dedicated to the Goddess Sati .The temple is located on the top of Kunjapuri hill at an altitude of 1645 meters . It lends a panoramic view of the Himalayan peaks to the North and Rishikesh, Haridwar and the Doon valley to the South. It is on route from Rishikesh to uttarkashi, about 8 kms, from the town of Narendra Nagar.
The present town of Narendra nagar came into existence in 1919 when Maharaja Narendra Shah of Tehri Garhwal moved his capital from Tehri as this was a more picturesque location with an extraordinary scenic beauty and was close to the plains below. On a clear day you get an magnificent view of Ganga flowing from mountains to Plains of haridwar.
Narendra Nagar was the district headquarters of Tehri Garhwal for long time and has a small well developed township. There is central market along the highway that passes through the town . There is a Shiv temple in Narendra Nagar where there is a huge statue of Nandi, the biggest in North India, sculpted by Sri Avtar Singh Panwar. This was inaugurated in 1960 by the then District Magistrate of Tehri district, Sri Daya Nand Joshi. There is a plaque at the base of the statue commemorating this.
The district headquarters was later shifted to New Tehri city.
